Spartan Family of the Year for 2025

Congratulations to the Martin family, who was nominated by their daughter, Brooklynn Martin, a current junior at UNCG. Brooklynn shared that her family has helped her thrive in college by being close by while still giving her the space to grow her independence.

Originally from the Greensboro area, she chose to live on campus to fully embrace the Spartan spirit 24/7. Her family has supported her journey through constant communication and encouragement. She says, “I call my parents often and fill them in on the minute details of what I had for lunch to the exciting things happening in my classes.”

Even though her parents did not attend a traditional university, Brooklynn shared that their connection keeps her humble and grateful. “I do not take my education for granted or the opportunities it grants me every day,” she reflected. “There will be few times in my life after college where I will be surrounded by people of a similar age with a similar goal. My family keeps me in line to understand what I want from my goals and how to achieve them.”

Spartan Family of the Year AWARD

The Spartan Family of the Year award is given in recognition and celebration of the important role families play in the development of students and the overall Spartan Family Community. UNCG recognizes the vital role family members play and wants to honor this commitment to their student’s education and success.

ELIGIBILITY

ALL families, parents, or supporters of current students are eligible for nomination regardless of alumni status or state of residence. Only current students can nominate their family.

Submission Guidelines

Complete online form (must be completed by current UNCG student)

Nominations will open in April 2026

Award criteria

Submissions will be evaluated based on application completion and demonstration of family support, enthusiasm, a commitment to their student’s education, and recognition of their family’s unique contributions.

Award Selection

The winner will be notified in early August and award will be presented at Spartan Family Weekend in October.

Recognition of Winning Family

The Spartan Family of the Year will be recognized on social media, in the Spartan Family Newsletter, and featured on the Spartan Family website. In addition, the family will receive an engraved award (presented during Spartan Family Weekend), complimentary tickets to Spartan Family Weekend events for up to five family members, Spartan swag, and a UNCG Bookstore gift card.
