Who, What, When, Where

Tags are markers on events that indicate what a student can expect to learn or do while at an event. Tags should exist for all campus events, but not all require Spartan Experience (SE) tags – Student Affairs Division Events always do. Example Event: Career Fair – Needed Tags: SE-Career (for the Competency) and SE – Career Fair

The map below shows the current SE tags and when they are used based on the competencies and skills they are a part of. Please note the level at which tags are used as well.

By participating in the Spartan Experience, students will learn more about the campus and enhance their sense of belonging and understanding of available resources. Additionally, students will gain experience in/with:

  • Understanding and planning for personal goals
  • Consideration of their career, professional and financial development
  • Time management
  • Leadership skills
  • Increased intercultural and global understanding
  • Supplemental materials/experiences for scholarships, resumes, graduate school applications, etc.

Students will also be eligible for points of recognition that include UNCG merchandise, dinner with the Vice Chancellor, a presence at the Spartans of Excellence Banquet, and more!

FYE and other foundation courses will have elements of the Spartan Experience built into their coursework. All faculty are welcome to review the learning outcomes of the Spartan Experience and use them/their practical applications as they appear in the Spartan Experience in their courses.

You can also remind students that this is an option for them to enrich their time here and encourage students to participate.

Students will need to log on to Spartan Connect to access their co-curricular transcript/see their progress within the Spartan Experience.

If you are missing an attendance record for a student but know they attended, you can “Grant” them credit for the experience in Spartan Connect. Another way is asking the student to upload their proof of attendance for the Experience in Spartan Connect for approval.
