The Co-Curricular Transcript

The Division of Student Affairs, in support of the University’s mission, is the leader of student development. Student Affairs empowers students to be engaged citizens through fostering their development of lifelong skills by creating and supporting a rich learning environment in a community of care and mutual respect.

Three basic assumptions guide the work of Student Affairs:

  1. The individual student is viewed from a holistic perspective.
  2. Each student is treated as a unique individual.
  3. The overall college experience is based on student learning both in and outside of the classroom.

The co-curricular transcript will document the co-curricular learning accomplished by UNC Greensboro students.  The experiential learning is grouped into seven curricular areas, and is assessed based on student learning outcomes through the following possible methods:

  1. Reflection and Application: Participating in an event outlined in the curriculum and adding personal reflections for each experience.  Reflections are reviewed by professional staff who approve the reflection or request additional consideration from the student.
  2. Attendance: Attendance at the event, activity, program, or opportunity outlined in the curriculum.  Attendance is generally automatic as a student swipes their card at a program, event, or activity.
  3. Active Participation: Active involvement in the activity or event.  This is often part of a multiple-opportunity activity, such as Leadership Challenge.  Participation will be approved by a staff member who reviews the depth and breadth of both participation and learning.
  4. Developing Competencies: Each of the curricular areas are designed to enhance and exhibit the knowledge, skills, and expertise students can master to succeed in life and work in the 21st century.  Competency assessment is conducted through various metrics and methods, as established in each student learning outcome.


What is not a part of the co-curricular transcript:

  • Documenting awards, honors, certifications
  • Tracking scholarships or grants
  • Listing attendance at all campus events and activities
  • Storage of papers, projects, or academic course products


The curricular areas are based on 21st Century student outcomes, feedback from employers, and current best practices.

  1. Intercultural and Global Understanding:

Learning Outcomes

  • Students will understand the cultures, customs, practices, struggles, and successes of individuals and groups around the world.
  • Students will acquire knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to work effectively in a global society.
  • Students will engage in issues-based conversations with those who have different personal views.
  • Participating students will learn about diverse cultures, religions, and lifestyles, and be able to value and appreciate others for the differences and diversity.
  • Students will identify and confront their own cultural, religious, ethnic, ability, and other biases.
  • Students will learn to identify, discuss, and resolve conflicts and differences based on stereotypes, prejudice, and intolerance.
  • Students will demonstrate awareness and understanding of the roles of intercultural and global effects on politics, economics, and relationships.
  • Students will promote social justice locally and globally.

  • Participate in comUNITY Dialogue Series and write a reflection paper on the experience
  • Attend a SafeZone or TransZone program
  • Participate in the UNCG I-Fest
  • Attend a religious service different from your own faith or tradition and write a reflection paper on the experience
  • Participate in the “Tunnel of Oppression” exercise
  • Attend GreenZone program to learn about military service, culture, and support

Learning Outcomes

  • Students will actively exercise their rights as engaged citizens who will participate in local, regional, national, and global issues.
  • Students will participate actively in political processes, work to make change, and will demonstrate they know how to acquire knowledge and understanding of governmental processes.
  • Students will show knowledge and understanding of the environment and effects on air, climate, land, energy, food, and ecosystems.
  • Students will recognize the interdependent world which is rooted in fostering a shared commitment to the purposeful, collaborative pursuit of equitable, thriving, and safe communities.
  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of their individual and collective impact on the natural world.
  • Students will actively participate in electoral and political processes
  • Students will develop awareness and understanding of human and cultural differences to prepare them for work and personal pursuits
  • Students will understand the effects of their choices on the environment around them.

  • Students will participate in assessments and exercises to understand their individual strengths, opportunities, and challenges.
  • Through participation and reflection in leadership and assessment activities, students will develop a greater understanding of their responsibilities.

  • Participate in orientation and pre-class workshops focused on getting assistance at UNCG, understanding resources, and learning when you need help
