Student Affairs Fall 2020 Information

The University is planning for a return to campus in the fall. This will require everyone to make significant adjustments to ensure the safety of our extended community – especially those most at risk.

The semester opens August 10, and the first day of classes is August 18. Fall Break and Reading Day will be eliminated in order to end classes before Thanksgiving. Most final exams will be online, and commencement will remain on schedule for December 11.

Return to Campus Handbook

This comprehensive guide – geared towards students and parents – covers public health guidelines, academic planning, key dates, campus experience, and other important aspects of how the fall semester will look.

COVID-19 Updates

This site serves as a one-stop shop for information and resources related to the University’s ongoing response to the pandemic. The website will continue to be updated with the latest news and resources.

Community Standards

“Our health and safety upon return is dependent on a community effort made up of thousands of individual actions and decisions.”

Chancellor Franklin D. Gilliam, Jr.

It will take all of us together to keep our community safe and healthy. The primary way COVID-19 spreads is through person-to-person contact, so our best hope of preventing its spread is by changing the way we behave. Our Shield our Spartans campaign reinforces our community standards of Wear, Wait, Wash.

Wear a cloth face covering over your nose and mouth. Face coverings are mandatory at UNCG for all students, faculty, and staff. Everyone must wear a face covering that covers their nose and mouth while indoors – including in classrooms, libraries, auditoriums, and meeting spaces. Face coverings are also required outdoors in situations where appropriate social distancing cannot be maintained. Face coverings will be provided to students and employees at the start of the semester. They are also available for purchase at the bookstore. More details are available here.

Wait six feet apart to avoid close contact and maintain appropriate social distancing.

Wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer.

The University has also provided a COVID-19 Self-Reporting Form. If you experience COVID-19 symptoms, test positive for COVID-19, (or a health care provider tells you that you are presumed positive), or if someone in your immediate household has COVID-19 symptoms or has tested positive, you should notify your professors and fill out the Self-Reporting form.
