Associate Vice Chancellor and Dean of Students Brett Carter was named a 2021 Pillar of Fame by the High Point Housing Authority. Dr. Carter, a High Point native, has been involved in higher education for over 30 years. A graduate of both High Point University and UNCG, he is responsible for a wide range of Student Affairs functions, and he has a long history of diverse work experiences with student housing, judicial and academic integrity programs, student support services, first-year experience programs, and crisis management.

As reported by the High Point Enterprise, at the awards ceremony, Dr. Carter reflected on how “he, his twin brother and older brother used to collect aluminum cans and bottles across High Point to help their single mother of nine, who struggled to make ends meet. Both of his brothers died unexpectedly at an early age, but Dr. Carter’s life changed as he achieved his educational goals at High Point University and UNCG.”

“Much of my young adult life, I was always looking for a safe place to go,” said Dr. Carter. “Never did I imagine I would be working at a public university, leading an amazing team of professionals responsible for the health and safety of our students on a campus of 19,000.”

We are so proud of Dr. Carter and grateful for his leadership. Congratulations on this much deserved honor!
