Statement on AAPI Community Support

Posted on Monday, March 1st, 2021 by Jolie Helton under Uncategorized. Tags:

We are very proud of our Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) students at UNCG, and we join the many campuses around the country who are calling for an end to anti-AAPI bigotry.  Hate, violence, harassment or discrimination of Asian students has no place at UNCG or anywhere.  Our AAPI community is wonderfully diverse and deeply connected to all aspects of Spartan life.

The impact of large scale crises, such as the current global pandemic, have always been felt with acute severity by communities of color.  Hard work remains ahead to address deeply rooted racism, systemic inequities, and the impact of past abuses in health care.  We cannot allow fear or stigma to affect the way that we treat one another.  This is another example of the need for us as a community to demonstrate our leadership in displaying unity, understanding, and compassion across all racial and ethnic lines. Our greatest strength as Spartans lies in our many dreams, in our many talents, and in how we come together during difficult moments.

If you observe anti-AAPI incidents, or any form of concerning behavior, please report it here.

If you need assistance, please reach out to any of the following resources.  Staff are ready to support you.
